What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over.
Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss.
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

The Great Christmas Countdown

My New Year resolution is to give up locats...

The nice list, because not all Christmas songs are sentimental crap or they are slightly but I like them anyway...

Fairytale of New York
The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl
1987

The truth about how likely peace on earth and joy to all men really is!  Sometimes I think a lot of people would find Christmas easier to cope with if we didn't heap so much expectation on one day, it can't take the strain!

I Believe In Father Christmas
Greg Lake
1975

Pointed digs at consumerism....

Stop The Calvary
Jona Lewis
1980

In the dim and distant past I volunteered for a couple of years on a radio station which broadcasted for December only to raise money for um stuff.  I had Christmas tune overload.  I never got tired of this one though, the Christmas element is mostly incidental which helps.

Walking In The Air
Aled Jones
1985

Last year the girls watched The Snowmen on an almost daily basis.  I love this song, it reminds me of being small when I still believed in Christmas, before my father banned it completely on the grounds it was actually pagan.  It is pretty miserable being 11 and not allowed to leave your bedroom until 3pm on Christmas day, no presents and no nice food.
In fact it is so crap it is why I try extra hard to make Christmas special for my children, the death of the snowman aside....

The Waitresses
Christmas Wrapping
1981

Favourite Christmas song even though I have never learned close to half the words.  It annoys me there is no proper video for this.  Last year we had synchronised Christmas lights, this year we have guitar playing Santas.  I suggest playing it loudly and dancing whilst ignoring the video...

Hello Fiona, We meet at last!!!

It's me Caroline, We met today at HIRC :)

Ooooh I'd love you to join our writing group when it starts again. You'd love Mat, he's the Tutor? He's in a band, and was the recipient of all my vinyls. On the condition, he treasured them. I think you'd enjoy the team at Hillsborough Park also. But it's closed now tioll March :(
