How was your New Years Eve?
Mine was fantastic thanks for asking. Several of my closest friends, Chris and my girls all together playing Pointless and toasting the New Year with champers. The girls defied my prediction and despite looking like they might fall asleep where they sat several times they lasted till 2am. I am still giggling about how bad a counsellor I am to my friends, Lee's bibblybib noises and riding the purple dragon... OK you had to be there...
2012 is going to be a fabulous year (assuming the world doesn't end). We have so much stuff to look forward too. I'll get my results of the assessments on Friday and then start making some decisions about where my life goes next.
I got a copy of a letter yesterday my brain injury physio has sent the hospital. She wants them to do some investigations because there are issues with my balance and the like. I was assessed on berg balance scale and Romberg (which sounds suspiciously like a newly discovered race in Star Trek.) and there were other issues too but I am doing pretty well, it sounds like it can be fixed or adapted too and most importantly I know I have a team of professionals and really nice people with me who have got my back.
Also it is the start of the year of birthdays and we kick of proceedings with the greatest hip hop record ever. (Wiki tells me It is the first Hip-Hop record ever to be added to the United States' National Recording Registry of historic sound recordings.)

Happy birthday Joseph Saddler. 54 today...
This song might not have been the first to narrate the struggles and alienation of the ghetto but it was the first to do it with a slowed down beat. The song is credited to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five but what makes this track stand out is the fury is more controlled and measured and so much more sinister.
He isn't rapping fast and loud, 'don't push me/cos I'm close to the edge/I'm tryin' not to loose my head' is a real warning of a pressure pot about to explode.
I still here samples from this used fairly often in TV films, documentaries and trailers. It is a classic.
The spiritual home of Championship Vinyl where life, music and top 5's combine like a very cheesy fondue
What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over.
Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss.
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?
